I go through roughly a shaker-canister a week (Red Star Vegetarian Support Formula is my brand of choice) and I have yet to experience niacin flush -- but now I'm a bit nervous. How much of these golden flakes of tasty would I have to consume in a day to get a niacin flush? I would think more than you could eat...unless you ate huge spoonfulls! I take a sublingual B vitamin complex, and it includes Niacin. The flush is really not bad. you get kinda hot, and blotchy for like 10 minutes. It's no big deal. But I don't think that the small amount in Nutritional yeast will cause it (but if it does for some reason, not a big deal) Also, I only get the flush if I take it on an empty stomach, which you wouldnt be doing since you are eating! Thanks

I too have experienced the niacin flush after eating several spoonfuls straight-up. It's not that terrible, just a little weird and uncomfortable. My boyfriend (who is not a vegan) also loves nooch and I have to stop him from eating it by the fistful so he doesn't get itchy. And yeah, sometimes my pee is electric yellow, but that's ok.

Yeah, B vitamins are water-soluble so aaaaaaall the extra is pee peed out!
I always smile a little when it looks like someone dropped a highlighter in my pee.
I'm new to being veggie and confess that I'm still a little afraid of mooch and don't know where to start.

Yesterday, my mom made us a tomato olive salad with olive oil and some nooch mixed in. The nooch really brought out the umami flavor of the tomatoes and olives. Very tasty. Why didn't I think of doing that!

OK guys, this is important: When you make popcorn, how do you get the nooch to stick? What I've been doing so far is to give the popcorn a light mist of cooking spray (yes, on top of the oil it was popped in) and shake it up with the nooch. I think this works OK, but there's always an abundance of flakes at the bottom of the bowl, and if I lick them as I'm tempted to do I'll get the dreaded flush. Anyone have other tricks for making it stick?

I LOVE nooch popcorn and I've made all my non-vegan friends nooch-popcorn addicts. But I've been wondering the same thing as Limone, what do you guys use to make it stick? I use sunflower oil or whatever oil I have laying around, sometimes earth balance, BUT I always end up using soooooo much to make it stick and it makes me feel kind of gross... Wish there was a way to evenly distribute it or something
I'm surprised I haven't experienced the niacin flush... on the other hand maybe I have but didnt notice because I'm generally itchy

Does nooch go bad? I know you all are probably going to say that you've never had a container long enough for it to go bad. But I've had mine for a good few years. It still looks and smells fine. But I rarely use it. It's just one of those things I have on hand in case I make something that calls for it. But I don't put it on everything like a lot of you. So I was just wondering.

I've never tried Frontier, but KAL yeast flakes are sold in a 22oz container and that's my favorite kind. They have a slightly stronger taste than Red Star imo. Plus it's really cheap on iHerb (Referral link, $5 off if you've never ordered from them before: http://www.iherb.com/?rcode=pib512) GraciaKai wrote: Does nooch go bad? I think the shelf life is technically supposed to be something like 2 years, but if you've kept it in a dry place and it smells/tastes normal you're probably not going to die?

I think the shelf life has more to do with vitamin content and the strength of flavor than actually going bad. Over two years the flavor can fade a bit (like ground spices do), and the vitamins degrade a bit, but since you're just using your nooch for recipes and not as a primary source of B12 I think you're fine. Assuming you're storing it in a sealed, dry container, of course.

I can't believe it. Last week when I had run out of nooch I was sure I'd bought a back up months ago, but couldn't find one. Yesterday I found said back up. I had a noochless week for NO REASON. Dammit.

Bump bump bump! Unintentional, but I was seeking fellow nooch addicts with whom to empathize - and sure enough, many odes to nooch by way of PPK forum threads!
Been CRAVING it so much lately - can't get enough. On the never-ending quest for the least-filling vehicle so I can maintain the highest nooch-to-food ratio in every bite. Even pinches of it - raw - are just too, too amazingly fulfilling...
I am relieved to know I'm not alone. ☺
PS - I buy mine in bulk at New Frontiers (our version of Whole Foods) @ $7.99/lb. And I'm always concerned I may be running low, so I replenish my stock each time I'm there. Just the process of opening the bulk bin, to scoop the golden flakes into the waiting receptacle, provides an aroma bouquet of deep zen.

Yeah, I'm in one of those Nooch Anonymous phases, too: "Hi, I'm Desdemona, and I confess that I am powerless over nooch and the hold it has on me." It's sort of ridiculous how much of the stuff I ingest on an ordinary day, but I guess it must be a good thing, right?

Does anyone else worry when you pour nooch from one container into another and it gets in the air that you will develop a heretofore unknowns disease that will later be referred to as nooch lung?
Or maybe it's just me...

Every time. I've actually learned to step away from the nooch cloud when pouring, because while it smells tasty it makes me cough.
